A Assistant Dean for Education at UC San Diego's Division of Extended Studies, leading global programs in English and Spanish. He specializes in gifted education, neuroscience of learning, and education policy, with experience across the U.S. and Latin America. Appel teaches at UC San Diego and UC Irvine, hosts Creative Conversations on UCTV, and serves on several nonprofit boards. In 2023, he was named California lead educator by the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Organization.
