We are seeking a highly proactive Microsoft 365 Engineer to take ownership of our M365 environment. This is not a reactive support role—we need an operator who drives the platform, manages issues before they escalate, and continuously improves the service.
This individual will act as the subject matter expert for Exchange Online and core M365 services, ensuring stability, security, and effective communication of changes across the organization.
What will you do?
Core M365 Ownership
- Own day-to-day administration of Microsoft 365, with a strong emphasis on:
- Exchange Online (mail flow, transport rules, hygiene)
- Distribution Lists / M365 Groups lifecycle management
- Tenant health monitoring and service optimization
- Perform advanced message tracing, search & purge (“search and destroy”), and remediation of mail-related issues
- Manage and optimize mail flow, connectors, and security policies
Operations & Support
- Act as Tier 2/3 escalation point for M365-related incidents via ServiceNow
- Drive incident resolution end-to-end with minimal oversight
- Engage Microsoft support when required and manage cases to resolution
- Provide clear, concise updates and closure notes to stakeholders
Monitoring, Roadmap & Communication
- Proactively monitor:
- Service health dashboard
- Message center/roadmap updates
- Translate Microsoft changes into impact-aware communications for internal stakeholders
- Partner with Technology Enablement / Communications teams to drive awareness and adoption of new features
Governance, Security & Identity
- Manage Azure AD / Entra ID:
- Identity lifecycle
- Access controls
- License management and optimization
- Collaborate with Cybersecurity on:
- Conditional Access
- Security baselines
- Compliance policies
Automation & Optimization
- Use PowerShell and/or Graph API to:
- Automate repetitive admin tasks
- Improve operational efficiency
- Track service consumption and provide insight into licensing and cost optimization
Continuous Improvement
- Identify gaps, inefficiencies, and risks in the M365 environment
- Propose and implement improvements without being prompted
Maintain awareness of Microsoft roadmap and drive feature adoption where valuable
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- 4+ years hands-on Microsoft 365 administration experience
- Strong expertise in:
- Exchange Online (transport rules, mail flow, message trace, security)
- Azure AD / Entra ID
- Experience with:
- ServiceNow or similar ITSM platform
- PowerShell for administration
- Proven ability to operate independently and proactively
- Strong communication skills—able to translate technical issues into business impact
Preferred Qualifications
- Microsoft 365 certifications (e.g., MS-102, Exchange Online)
- Experience in hybrid environments (AAD Connect, on-prem AD)
- Familiarity with:
- SharePoint Online, Teams, Intune
- Identity governance tools (e.g., SailPoint)
- Experience working in a fast-paced enterprise or managed services environment
