The Senior IT Test Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and executing testing strategies that ensure the quality, reliability, and performance of IT systems, including Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) and custom-developed applications.

This role will provide technical leadership across testing activities, develop and maintain scalable testing frameworks, and drive quality assurance best practices throughout the software delivery lifecycle. The Senior IT Test Engineer will collaborate closely with development, infrastructure, operations, and business teams to identify risks, improve testing efficiency, and ensure reliable delivery of IT solutions.

• Develop and execute testing strategies for Non-GxP IT systems, including COTS and custom-developed applications.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other Test Engineers, promoting testing best practices and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with development teams, IT stakeholders, and business partners to integrate testing activities throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Identify testing risks, define appropriate mitigation strategies, and ensure adequate test coverage across assigned projects.
• For GxP systems, collaborate with Quality Assurance and Computer Software Assurance leadership to align testing activities with NBI’s Computer Software Assurance Program.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related technical field required; Master’s degree preferred.
• 5+ years of experience in software quality assurance, IT testing, or test engineering, preferably supporting enterprise IT environments.
• Proven experience planning, designing, implementing, and executing testing strategies for both COTS and custom-developed applications.
• Strong knowledge of software testing methodologies, including functional, regression, integration, system, user acceptance, and performance testing.
• Hands-on experience with test automation tools and frameworks such as Selenium, Playwright, JUnit, TestNG, or similar technologies.
• Experience with test management and enterprise tools such as Jira, Zephyr, Veeva Validation Management, and ServiceNow automation workflows, as applicable.
• Experience testing enterprise platforms and integrations, including ERP, CRM, cloud, and data systems.
• Experience with test planning, test case design, defect tracking, root cause analysis, and quality reporting.
• Strong understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Agile methodologies.
• Experience with GxP systems, Computer Software Assurance (CSA), or software validation processes in regulated industries.
• Life sciences industry experience, preferably in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, or medical devices.
• Familiarity with quality standards, compliance requirements, and documentation practices applicable to regulated IT environments.
• Ability to manage multiple testing activities, prioritize tasks, and collaborate effectively across technical and business teams.
• Security and User Access Testing: Can identify permission gaps, privilege escalation risks, and segregation-of-duties conflicts across different enterprise applications.
• Cross-Application Technical Understanding: Can investigate how a change in one enterprise application affects downstream systems and business workflows.
• AI-Assisted Testing: Experience using approved AI tools for test design, scenario generation, documentation review, or automation assistance, with awareness of data privacy and output verification.
• Vendor & SaaS Release Testing: Experience evaluating release notes, performing change-impact assessments, and designing regression tests for vendor-managed applications.
